Workshop on Implementation of Tobacco Control Law held in Cox’s Bazar

YPSA and DC Office of Cox’s Bazar district jointly organized a workshop on “Implementation of Tobacco Control Law in Cox’s Bazar” for the government officials with the assistance of Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids and Bloomberg Philanthropies on 20th January 2016 at the Conference room, DC Office of Cox’s Bazar.

Mr. Md. Ali Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar district was present as a chief guest in the closing session of the workshop. Mr. Anupam Saha, Additional District Commissioner (General) of Cox’s Bazar district has inaugurated the workshop. Besides that Dr. Mohiuddin Mohammad Alamgir, Civil Surgeon (Acting), Md. Anowarul Naser, Additional District Commissioner (Education & Development) were present as guests in the workshop. The district tobacco control taskforce members, authorized Officers, representatives from Cox’s Bazar municipality were the participants of the workshop.

The main objectives of the workshop were to share Tobacco control law and Rules, share role and responsibility of authorized officer/magistrate/taskforce and develop action plan for implementing TC law in Cox’s Bazar.

Ms. Nasim Banu, Team Leader of Smoke Free Project of YPSA has facilitated the workshop and shared
the information on harms of tobacco use, global and country status, government initiatives, overview of the amendment TC law and Rules, violation of laws, TC law compliance findings, role of authorized officer, taskforce and magistrate. At the end of the workshop each participant has shared their next initiative to implement the TC law at their own jurisdiction.
