YPSA’s‘COVID-19 Emergency Response’ Project in Chakoria, Cox’s Bazar

YPSA has started implementation of a four months project titled, ‘CPiE and EiE in COVID-19 Emergency Response’ with the support of Plan International at two unions – Kakaraunion and Chiringa union under Chakoria Upazila, Cox’s Bazar from May, 2020. Through theemergency response project, a total of 1,454 people will be provided cash package and protection material supports for four months to the people who have become income less due to COVID-19. The beneficiaries include female-headed households, persons with disabilities, single earner families etc. of those unions.

The project is being implemented in coordination and guidance of the local government including Upazial and Union parishad of Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar. In this regard, YPSA organized two orientation programs on COVID-19 Emergency Response at two unions on 14th May, 2020. The programs were coordinated by Mr. Jishu Barua, Program Manager and Focal Person of YPSA-COVID-19 Response Project and attended by Mr. Alamgir Quaderi, the Operation Manager of Plan International, 2 chairmen, 17 members, 6 reserved female members, 2 secretaries of two unions and YPSA-Project Staff. The main objectives of the programs were to orient the Union Parishad bodies on the project modalities and beneficiary selection.  However, Mr. Quaderi discussed on 6 selection criteria of beneficiaries and Master Roll of beneficiary selection in both the orientation programs.

In discussion, UP chairmen and members have thanked to YPSA and Plan International for emergency response in their localities. They said that people have been suffering vulnerable lives due to loss of job and not adequate support to meet the needs of people.

Mr. Shawkat Osman, Chairman of Kakara Union said, “I give thanks to YPSA to come forward to support the people of Kakakra union who are really in need of support in the COVID-19 crisis.” Adding that he instructed the UP members about the selection of right beneficiaries for the support under the project. On the other hand, Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin, chairman of Chiringa union said, “I would like to request you (UP members) to select the beneficiaries with honesty and extend you cooperation to YPSA in implementation of the project”
