Sharing meeting of Multi-Hazard Contingency Plan Held at Chattogram City Corporation

YPSA organized a sharing meeting on “Multi-Hazard Contingency Plan” with different city stakeholders, held at the Conference room of Chattogram City Corporation on 27th November 2022. The meeting was chaired by Chief Revenue Officer, Mohammad Nazrul Islam and moderated by Mr. Abdulla Al Omar, Town Planner, Chattogram City Corporation.

At the beginning of the meeting, Nasim Banu, Deputy Director (Social Development) of YPSA gave welcome speech and mentioned the process of preparing the contingency plan report in consultation with different stakeholders and city experts.

Simon Rahman, Manager-Urban Resilience of Save the Children gave welcome speech. He shared the objectives of the meeting.  He said, the overall objective of the meeting is to share the findings of overall multi Hazard Contingency plan with major stakeholders, elicit thoughts and feedback on the report from stakeholders and finalize the report for publication and submission.

Next Mr. Md. Shajalal Mishok, Assistant Professor, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, CUET presented the multi-hazard contingency plan report through power point presentation.

Other experts like Md. Abu Isa Ansari, Deputy Chief Town Planner, CDA, Engineer Delwar Mojumbdar, President of Planned Urban Forum, Civil Sergeon Dr. Md. Ilias Chowdhury, Dr. Md. Rashidul Hasan, Professor and Department Head, URP of CUET, Engineer Subhash Chandra Barua, Vice President of Planned Urban Forum, Hassan Ahmed, Assistant Director, Department of Environment, Md. Abdul Hamid Mia, Deputy Assistant Director of FSCD were present and participated in open forum discussion.

During the open discussion, experts emphasized on planning ward based multi-hazard contingency plan, which will coordinate in city level and will be align with national level disaster management policy. They also requested to finalize the report with assistance of related government stakeholders to understand the real number of existing service and necessity sectors.

To be mentioned here, YPSA has supported Chattogram City Corporation to develop multi- hazard contingency plan under Proyash-II (An Urban Risk Reduction Project) supported by Save the Children. This multi-hazard contingency plan has been developed through a number of consultation workshop with city corporation personnel, lifeline support agencies e.g., WASA, PDB, gas companies, T&T, FSCD, district administration, community people and national experts. Save the Children have facilitated the process along with overall guidance from Chattogram City Corporation to develop, validate and approve the multi-hazards contingency plan. The plan is developed by external consultant hired by Save the Children and later reviewed by a number of urban experts of Chattogram.
