YPSA celebrates Environment Day with Chattogram Divisional Commissioner and Department of Environment

World Environment Day-2024 is celebrated on June 5 with the theme “Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience”. The day has been celebrated in Bangladesh like other countries of the world with the aim of increasing awareness and taking an effective role in environmental pollution prevention and conservation.

On the occasion of World Environment Day and Environment Fair-2024, a special discussion and prize distribution program was organized at District Shilpakala Academy premises under the initiative of Department of Environment, Chattogram.

Divisional Commissioner Md. Tofail Islam was present as the chief guest. DIG Nure Alam Meena, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman, Superintendent of Police S, M, Shafiullah were present as special guests.

Muhammad Ali Shaheen, Focal Persos of YPSA Advocacy Program and coordinator of several projects including the Free Kids Project. The Free Kids project is being implemented by YPSA in collaboration with Solidar Suisse.

Professor Dr. President of Department of Botany of Chittagong University presented the main article on the occasion. Sheikh Bakhtiar Uddin. Mr. Hillol Biswas, Director of Department of Environment, Chittagong Metropolitan City, presided over the event.

YPSA Free Kids Project celebrated World Environment Day in all centers under the project. It was funded by the international donor organization Solider Switzerland.

Children and parents under the project participate in various programs of the day.

Free Kids Project has observed global environment at Muradpur Center under the scope of the project in Chittagong city. In this, the children plant and water the saplings with their own hands. A discussion meeting was held among the children on the importance of the day.

Environment Day was also celebrated at YPSA Safety First Center in Baraulia, Sitakunda. The children under the Free Kids project participated in the planting of tree saplings.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, YPSA – Free Kids Project has undertaken various programs in Cox’s Bazar as well.

As part of the day, children planted Neem, Pinwheelflower, garden vellum, lemon, guava, Chinese palm trees in the afternoon at the Samitipara center of the project. Earlier, a rally was held on the occasion of Environment Day.

In the afternoon, environment day, importance of planting trees, harmful aspects of filling rivers and canals, disastrous aspects of plastic waste were discussed with children at Basinapara Center.

Children then formed human chain at the center and beach holding posters and banners.

YPSA-Free Kids Project also celebrated World Environment Day in Chouphaldandi, Cox’s Bazar. On the occasion of the day, the project staffs organized a discussion meeting and rally here. Children and parents under the project participate in it.

It should be noted that YPSA has been working at the field level for a long time with various aspects of environmental awareness. In continuation of that, Free Kids Project is playing a role in environmental awareness with the funding of Solider Switzerland.
