Media should actively come forward to support the Smoke Free Campaign

meeting`Media is very effective to raise the people’s voice and easily communicate with a wide range of audience. Media should be more active on ensuring smoke free public place in line with Smoke Free Campaign of YPSA. Media should contribute to ensure the proper implementation of the Smoke and Tobacco Control Act and Rules.’ Speakers said in a meeting that organized by YPSA, on 27  August 2009 in Chittagong, on “Smoke free Work and Public Place: Duties of Media” under the program of “Promoting Smoke Free Local Government and Public Spaces in Chittagong Division” supported by CFTFK and Bloomberg Initiatives.

GuestThe Meeting was presided by the prominent journalist and City Editor of Daily Suprobhat Bangladesh Mr. M. Nasirul Haque; the meeting also addressed by Mr. Omar Kaisar, Bureau Chief, Daily Bhorer Kagoj, Mr. Rashed Rauf, Secretary, Chittagong Press Club, Mr. Najim Uddin Shaymol, Secretary, Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) and other representatives of different newspaper and print media of Chittagong. Mr. M. Nasirul Haque gave the welcome speech and moderated the meeting and Md. Ali Shahin, Program Officer, Smoke Free Campaign Project of YPSA read out the slide presentation. The participants joined the meeting very actively and gave valuable comments to enrich the campaign. They also committed that they will continue their support in future.
