A three-day peer educator training program on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) was recently held in the Chittagong City Corporation area. The training was organized under the project “Health System Resiliency for Improved SRHR in Bangladesh,” which is supported by Global Affairs Canada and the HealthBridge Foundation of Canada, and jointly implemented by BAPSA, MAMATA, and YPSA.

Selected peer educators participated in the training, which took place from June 8 to 10, 2026, at the project office in Dewanhat, Chattogram. The primary objective of the training was to develop effective leadership among adolescents and youth on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), nutrition, gender equality, safe motherhood, life skills, and health awareness.

Furthermore, participants were provided with guidelines on conducting awareness sessions within their communities, disseminating information, and ensuring referral support for accessing necessary healthcare services. As part of the training, participants also engaged in group presentations, demo sessions, and participatory activities.

The training program was inaugurated by Nasim Banu, Director of Social Development at YPSA.

Project officials, including Dr. Shafaet Halim, Program Coordinator of BAPSA, and Tajmun Nahar, Project Manager of MAMATA, stated that the trained peer educators will subsequently conduct regular awareness sessions in communities and educational institutions.

Additionally, extensive awareness activities will be implemented in the Chattogram City Corporation area through more than 700 courtyard meetings, parent awareness workshops, and campaigns involving both teachers and students in educational institutions.

The participants thanked the organizers for conducting such a timely and practical training program and called for its continuous implementation at the community level.

On the final day of the training, Ms. Shamima Akhter Chowdhury, Project Team Leader at BAPSA, joined online and delivered an inspiring speech to the participants.
