International Youth Day 2008 Observed in Bangladesh

The Government of Bangladesh, different national and international organizations and youth clubs in different places observed the International Youth Day 2008 with solemnity. To observe the International Youth Day 2007, a colorful grand youth rally was brought out from the National Museum at Shahbag, which ended at Central Shahid Minar, Dhaka in the morning at 9:00AM. More than one thousand youth participants including Youth Development Directorate, concerned government officials, members of the youth organizations, non-governmental organizations representative took part in the procession. The theme of this year was “Youth and Climate Change: Time for Action”.

After colorful procession, the Directorate Youth Development and UNFPA jointly organized a seminar, marking the theme of International Youth Day 2008 at the Juba Bhaban in Motijheel, Dhaka. The secretary of the youth and sports ministry, Dr Md. Golam Mustafa Talukder, attended the seminar as chief guest while Mr. Pornchai Suchitta, Deputy Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) was Special Guest. The National Programme Officer of UNFPA, Dr. Noor Mohammad, Director (Administration) Mr. Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Project Director DYD Mr. Md. Mazanur Rahman, and youth representative Ms. Makina Rahman also spoke in the seminar. One hundred and twenty participants including 70 Youths joined in the seminar. YPSA and Pro Youth Network Bangladesh actively participated both of this programme.
