The 20th May 2018 is the 33rd anniversary of YPSA, an organization for sustainable development.
Being inspired by the spirit of International Youth Year 1985, proclaimed by United Nations, some socially conscious youths of Sitakund Upazilla under Chittagong District of Bangladesh began to motivate and organize the youth community establishing a youth organisation named “Young Power” on 20 May 1985.
Youth led and youth managed organisation “Young Power” has successfully adopted and implemented various social, cultural and sports activities from 1985-1991. Following the devastating cyclone and tidal bore on 29 April 1991, youth organizers of “Young Power” actively engaged in emergency relief and rehabilitation work. Later in 1992, the “Young Power” youth organisation turned into YPSA (Young Power in Social Action) and started its activities as a non-profit social development organization.
YPSA gains huge reputation from the local, National and International level by the expansions of its social development activities and network. YPSA represented in UN World Youth Forum & Festival in Portugal in 1998 and won the International Youth Peace Prize (IYPP) in 1999. Currently, YPSA has been working notably with the special consultative status of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC).
YPSA works on various development programs or projects based on organizational vision-mission-values and community needs of the target population in accordance with its strategic plan. At present, YPSA is diligently working for 10 million people directly or indirectly on 5 development programmatic themes including Health, Education, Human Rights & Good Governance, Economic Empowerment and Climate Change & Disaster Management.
As a collaborative organization of Access to Information (a2i) program of the Prime Minister’s Office of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, YPSA has been successful in implementing innovative projects to create the accessibility of person with disability to information technology. These innovative programs have earned national and international recognition and awards.
Recently, Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF) honored the “BNF Award” to the Chief Executive of YPSA through Mr. Md. Najibur Rahman, Chief Secretary, Prime Minister Office of Bangladesh, in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the social development initiative.
In the disaster management program, YPSA undertakes disaster emergency relief programs for the affected people by coordinating with local government and all concerned departments on priority basis. YPSA also implements its emergency relief operations with the help of local affected people.
Recently, YPSA very successfully distributed need based relief material to the displaced Rohingya people who escaped Myanmar violence, and the local residents who also affected by Rohingya displacement,.
Beside relief distributions, YPSA also provides support to displaced women, children and elderly by building various Service Centers at their camps in order to provide healthcare, woman and elderly friendly spaces etc.
YPSA’s social and economic development programs have played an active role in the grassroots level for achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in Bangladesh. The organization’s activities have achieved remarkable success in achieving the goal of MDGs in the support of local public representatives, local government institutions, Upazila-district administration and all government departments and ministries.
All the activities of the organization has been implementing continuously to achieve the vision 2021, establishing Bangladesh as a middle-income country by 2021, coordinating with Bangladesh’s various development programs, to ensure the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030 declared by United Nations.
Now YPSA has reached the 33rd year of its existence. We respect and gratitude to all of you on behalf of all the members, officials, workers, and volunteers to be with us in this long journey.
We hope your inspirations and contributions will continue who encouraged us in the past to raise a new development dream and who contributed in ensuring the sustainability of the organization and scaling the work sphere.
New employment opportunity will be generated in the development sector if the organization sustains and extends its working area. Synchronized efforts from all levels will uphold social development and improve the quality of life of the target population.
On the occasion of 33rd anniversary, YPSA is going to arrange various events in each field office/branch office/link organization including head office from 20-31 May with the presence of local representatives, social activists, general members, associated all level officials and volunteers. Those events include social gatherings, discussion meeting, rally, milad mahfil and prayer. All offices will be decorated with a festive environment.
