Mayor of Cox’s Bazar Municipality Mr. Mujibur Rahman has taken decision to destroy all tobacco advertisements in Cox’s Bazar Municipality area. He has given an order to the administrative officer for issuing an office notice to all Supervisors of Waste management department of Cox’s Bazar Municipality to collect all advertisements from different areas of Cox’s Bazar municipality immediately and dumping those at Cox’s Bazar municipality office.
He also declared that he would lead the Tobacco free Cox’s Bazar initiative and will take necessary actions like making smoke free Cox’s Bazar sea beach, include tobacco issue in the licensing process, will give circular to all public places for enforcing smoke free provisions, allocate and utilize budget for tobacco control program and guide focal person to implement tobacco free city plan.
Mayor of Cox’s Bazar Municipality has taken all the decisions in a meeting held on 28th April 2019 at Cox’s Bazar Municipality office. Mr. Shariful Alam, Lead consultant of CTFK, Ms. Shamim Akhtar, focal person of Tobacco control program of Cox’s Bazar municipality, Ms. Nasim Banu, Team leader of Tobacco control project of YPSA, Mr. Md. Harun, Program Officer of Tobacco control project of YPSA and other officials of Cox’s Bazar municipality were present in the meeting.
