Heather McGray, Director of Climate Justice and Resilience Fund (CJRF), a United States based organization visited YPSA on 27th to 28th October 2019. During her visit, She met with YPSA senior management team at head office along with project team and also visited ‘One House Once Family at a Time’ at Syedpur Union under Sitakund Upazila and CJRF funded project ‘YPSA-CJRF Planned Relocation Project for Climate Displaced People’ in southeastern Coastal belt of Bangladesh, particularly Sitepara area at Prameasia village in Khankanabad Union and Khaladapara area at Saral village in Saral Union of Banskhali Upazila.
Meeting with YPSA’s senior management
On 27th October shemet with YPSA officials atYPSA-Head Office and visited the YPSA-Information Center and Development Resource Center. During the meeting Mr. Mohammad Shahjahan presented a power point presentation on YPSA and displacement issue related project including avideo documentary about CJRF funded project. She actively observed the discussion and shared her thought as well as future of CJRF funded project. It is mentioned here thatYPSA has been implementing Planned Relocation Project for Climate Displaced People’ since January 2018 in the southeastern Coastal belt of Bangladesh with the support of CJRF.
Visit YPSA’s ‘One House Once Family at a Time Project’ in Sitakund
Heather Mcgray visited the Syedpur Union of Sitakund upazila where YPSA relocated the climate displaced families under ‘One House One Family at a Time project’ under the Bangladesh Housing, Land and Property Rights Initiative. She spoke with displaced families and actively listen their past and present situation.Meanwhile YPSA’s has rehabilitated four displaced families from Sandwip Island at Syedpur Union of Sitakund upazila. She also visitedYPSA HRDC Sitakund Campus, physiotherapy center and exchanged views with YPSA staffs.
Visit YPSA-CJRF Planned Relocation Project in the Banskhali
On 28th OctoberHeather visited YPSA-CJRF Planned Relocation Project for Climate Displaced Peopleat Prameasia village in Khankanabad Union in Banskhali Upazila. She joinedin a courtyard meeting with displaced people and community team. In these meeting she got information about their involvement with the project, reason of displacement, how community teams are working, how they play their role etc. She also observed families those already been supported by the project such as housing materials support, sanitation support, input support as alternative livelihood(sewing machine). Later on she visited Saral village in Saral Union under Banskhali Upazila where YPSA’s CJRF project distributed housing materials (corrugated iron for roof), hygiene toilet and platform shed goat rearing by displaced people.
After the early morning meeting, she visited the Syedpur Union of Sitakund upazila where YPSA relocated the climate displaced families under One House One Family Program of Bangladesh Housing, Land and Property Rights Initiative of Climate Displaced People. There are 4 families were rehabilitated here with the initiative of YPSA-HLP approach. She talked with relocated families of Sandwip to Sitakund upazila. She appreciated the YPSA initiative for relocation of climate displaced families and capacity building training for them in the south-eastern coastal area of Bangladesh.
