VICE Media has conducted two days long recording and documentation of the YPSA’s project “Addressing the Rights and Needs of Climate Forced Displaced People in South-Eastern Coast of Bangladesh” at Banshkhali Upazila in Chattogram. On the first day, August 10, 2022, the VICE Media team recorded the ‘Real Life Story of Monowara Begum’. Monwara Begum (45) is a widow and one of the household heads of YPSA’s relocated families. She has extended family (9 members), and she became displaced three times before she starts to live on the roadside with straw and the polythene shade house.

The media team has interviewed Monowara’s life cycle in three distinct places. During that time, Monowara took the media team to that place where her family was displaced three times. However, there is still ongoing bank erosion. She became quite emotional to explain her family condition – straggling with nature, times of displacement, living on a straw-polythene build roadside house. Finally, she explained her current life and livelihood as a relocated family. She expressed heartfelt thanks to YPSA for proving this durable house with water and sanitation facilities as well as for alternative livelihood scope. After that, the media team captured her daily household activities. For instance, cooking her family meals, caring for her disabled younger daughter, rearing fowls, operating a sewing machine, bringing drinking water from tubewell, and having pleasure moments with her family member, etc. In this way, the media team ended their first-day schedule.

On August 11, 2022, the VICE media team visited the YPSA Banshkhali project office and took inclusive interviews with Mr. Mohammad Shahjahan, Deputy Director of YPSA and Focal Person of the YPSA Climate Change Relocation Program. Mr. Shahjahan expounded about our organization (YPSA), organizational strength to work on ‘Climate Change & Displacement Issue’, Global Scenario of Climate Change, ‘impacts of displacement’, ‘Loss and Damage issue and stand of Bangladesh’, ‘Climate Justice and inequality’, ‘Current stand of global north’, ‘Funding nature of supporting donor’ and `creek and corner’ of this Climate Change Relocation project with the media team. Immediately, the media team recorded the various issues of the daylong Leadership and Climate Action Training Session of Youth-Forum [P-7 & 8]. Subsequently, they captured two comprehensive interviews with one male and one female youth forum member. In these interviews, the media team emphasized the few relevant issues on climate change and displacement. For instance, who is responsible for Climate Change?  What are the effects of climate change locally? How to ensure climate justice? How will they benefit from this training?
