YPSA celebrated International Literacy Day 2026 across the Education in Emergencies (EiE) projects in Camp 8w, 14, 15, 17 and 18 in Cox’s Bazar Rohingya Camps which is one of the world’s largest refugee operations. This year’s celebration was held under the global slogan “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity.”
On 8 September, this celebration brought together learners, caregivers and community stakeholders, including Community Education Support Group (CESG) members, to promote the importance of literacy and continued access to safe and inclusive education for children affected by displacement.
A major highlight was a rally with learners from YPSA’s Learning Facilities, creating a vibrant platform for children and community members to express their commitment to education. The rallies in Camp 14 and Camp 18 were inaugurated by the respective Camp-in-Charges, demonstrating the importance of collaboration among camp authorities, communities and education actors.
Discussion sessions were also organized with children, caregivers and community members on the theme “Education as a Powerful Tool for Protection.” Participants discussed how education can help children build knowledge, confidence and life skills while contributing to a safer and more protective environment. Learners also participated in an art competition, expressing their creativity and reflecting on the importance of literacy and education through their artwork.
Through these activities, YPSA’s EiE intervention reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening literacy, promoting protection through education, and ensuring meaningful learning opportunities for children in the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) camps. The literacy day celebration was closed by giving prize through CIC.
