“Long term and short term steps should be taken to reduce tobacco consumption at public places. Conducting mobile court will be increased and mass awareness should be created as well. According to new law, Tk 300 can be fined for public smoking. One magistrate will be assigned to conduct mobile court in public places” said Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mr. Mesbah Uddin in a District Taskforce Committee meeting organized by Chittagong District Administration with the support of Civil Surgeon Office and YPSA. District Taskforce Committee was formed aiming at effective implementation of the Tobacco Control Act.
The meeting was held at the District Administration Office on 30 October 2014. Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mr. Mesbah Uddin presided over the meeting. Civil Surgeon of Chittagong Dr. Sarfaraj Khan Chowdhury, Dr. Md. Rafiq Uddin, representatives from low enforcement agency, District Education Office, Chittagong Medical College, Department Narcotic Control and committee members were present in the meeting. A power point presentation of smoke free activities was presented by Md. Ali Shahin, program manager of YPSA.
