YPSA organized 3 advocacy workshops with different stakeholders at Banskhali, Pekua and Kutubdia upazila under the title “Climate induced displaced households in South-Eastern coast of Bangladesh: Necessary for Joint right based approach for problem solution” with the support of Climate Justice Resilience Fund.
Advocacy workshop at Banshkhali upazila held on 16th July at upazila parishad meeting room. The workshop was chaired by Prabal Barua, Program Coordinator of YPSA and he gave welcome speech. Chief guest Ms Momena Akter, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Banskhali and special guest Md. Nuruzzaman Dewanji, Engineer of Upazila Public Health Department and Dr. Abdul Momin, Upazila Livestock Officer( In Charge) were present at the workshop. The workshop was moderated by journalist Kallyan Barua.
A power point presentation was presented by Morshed Hossan Molla, Monitoring Officer of YPSA about the ongoing activities of YPSA-CJRF relocation project for climate displaced people, result of household survey , displacement scenario of the upazila and recommendations for possible right based solution of climate displacement problem in the uapzila. A total of 40 different stakeholders who were representatives from climate change displaced communities, community leaders, local government elected representative, representative of community based organizations, leader of women representative, NGO representatives working in the community level and local media have participated in the workshop.
Ms Momena Akter mentioned that Banshkhali is one of the most vulnerable area to climate change effect. In ground information and taking on the climate displaced issue forward Union Parishad chairmen are the key stakeholders for discussion. There are 3-4 Ashrayan project will be started soon where 500 people will be rehabilitated there and climate displaced people of different erosion hotspot will get housing there.

Chief guest Mr. Mahabubur Karim, Upazila Nirbahai Officer (UNO), Pekua and special guest Md. Hamid Ullah Mia, Upazila Social WElfair Officer and Sahdiul Islam, Chairman of Uazantia Union Parishad, Pekua were present at the workshop. YPSA organized advocacy meeting with local journalists of Kutubdia on 22th July, 2019 at upazila parishad conference room. The objective of the workshop was for sensitization of local journalists for news/feature published in the print and online media about the problems and rights of climate displaced people of Kutubdia. The workshop was chaired by Prabal Barua, Program Coordinator of YPSA and he gave welcome speech.
