There is no railing in the canal adjacent to Faridapara Taltal road under 4th Ward of Chattogram City Corporation. Nearby there are several schools, madrassas, mosques, various small businesses including garments. Many settlements have been built around the side of the canal. Canal adjacent to this Taltal road which is currently plagued by the benefits of urbanization. Due to piles of garbage in the canal and nearby, the students, garment workers and the residents of this area are in a bad condition. In addition, during the rainy season, waterlogging occurs and the influx of mosquitoes increases. In the dark at night, the boundary of the canal and the road cannot be understood. As a result, various accidents occur, at times students and other common pedestrians are daily victims of this problem.
In this situation, on 6th March 2023, a canal cleaning campaign was held along the Faridapara Taltal Road with the initiative of Bangladesh Alliance of Youth (BAY) and No. 4 Chandgaon Ward Volunteers and with the cooperation of YPSA and Save the Children.
The campaign was inaugurated by Md. Esrarul Haque, Councilor of Chandgaon Ward No. 4. The councilor said that if they throw garbage in open spaces, drains, canals, etc., they will be punished accordingly and he urged the public to be aware. A total of 100 people participated.
During the campaign, volunteers conducted awareness campaigns on cleanliness with hand mic and distributed leaflets. Also, the volunteers help Chattogram City Corporation employees to clean the canal.
